ENVIRONMENT Nature classrooms

Project

Nature classrooms

Project description:
The «Aulas Activas” (Nature classrooms) programme organises environmental education weeks with students from primary and middle schools from the Madrid, Extremadura, Portugal and Castilla y León autonomous communities. The aim is to promote ecological awareness and work on positive measures and alternatives for the environment.

This is an activity in which students from the 3rd year of primary school to the 2nd year of middle school can spend four days in a nature lodge in the province of Salamanca. They participate in environmental education workshops with themes such as the efficient use of resources, water analysis, or educational routes.

Methodology:
Environmental education is the key to a sustainable future and, unlike other subjects, «knowing» is not enough. In order for environmental education to be effective, it has to encourage a change of behaviour in students and this is achieved through experiential learning. Thanks to direct contact with nature, in “Aulas Activas” students learn to appreciate rivers, flora and fauna, motivating them to protect them from the risk factors created by humans and to be leaders  in the defence of the Planet.
