Talks and workshops in schools
Project description:
Through the Fundación Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura y Saberes (Salamanca City of Culture and Knowledge Foundation), the Fundación Plan B Educación Social gives different talks and workshops in primary and secondary schools throughout Salamanca.
Some examples of topics that are covered in these lectures are the following:
Training and Employment Guidance:
This essential topic is not always present in formal school curriculums. Youth often don’t know how to look for a job or where to go to get help or career guidance. Therefore, we think it’s necessary to offer secondary school students basic training in this topic and guide them in linking their passions to potential professional opportunities.
The SDGs in your daily life:
The Sustainable Development Goals were proposed by the UN in 2015 to be reached globally in order to achieve a more just society. However, they can seem somewhat distant to us or unconnected to our daily lives. For that reason, this activity proposes to bring the SDGs closer to us and make them better known so we see how they affect our day-to-day lives. We also explore some changes that we can make to contribute to their development.
Creative Conflict Resolution:
Creative problem solving is a technique that was created in the 1950’s by Alex Osborn and Dr. Sidney J. Parnes. It was designed to solve challenges and problems in an imaginative and innovative way. The method helps to redefine problems, create groundbreaking ideas, and put those new ideas into action. However, the evidence suggests that it would be more productive to help students develop creative problem-solving skills long before they enter the workforce.
From the classroom to the neighbourhood:
The possibility to effect change in our surroundings leads us towards the idea of creating spaces where youth and children can be agents of change in their educational institutions. This way, they are the ones that detect needs in their areas and make proposals for improvement. Being aware and responsible for what is in our immediate environment not only favours a more supportive and inclusive vision, but also a commitment to what surrounds us which motivates change towards a more just society.
