Citizen participation
Project description:
At Fundación Plan B Educación Social, we work to promote civic engagement in the neighbourhood of Pizarrales in Salamanca.
On the one hand, we develop social well-being projects in which we strengthen the involvement and engagement of neighbours in their neighbourhood. This is done through citizens’ assemblies, painting murals, or a schedule of activities in the neighbourhood.
On the other hand, we also support self-managed projects in the neighbourhood, such as a local organic food cooperative or the Biblioteca Popular de Pizarrales (a self-managed neighbourhood library in Pizarrales). The library started in February 2021 together with the Munibar neighbourhood association and it’s currently self-managed by a group of women volunteers with the external support of the Fundación Plan B.
Another self-managed project is Las Invisibles de Pizarrales (The invisible women of Pizarrales) that has been carried out by a group of women from the neighbourhood since 2023. They bring to light the stories of women who have done their part to build the neighbourhood throughout the years. This is possible thanks to the support of Asprodes (an NGO in the Castilla y León region dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities and their families) Fundación Plan B, professors and students from the Universidad de Salamanca, and personal interviews.
